In May 2015, the First International Forum on Sustainable Tourism: Communities and Destinations, was successfully held in the Culture Center in Sopó, a tourist destination located only 37 kms. from Bogotá, Colombia. The Forum was inaugurated by Mr. Jerónimo R. Valderrama Fonseca, Mayor of Sopó, and Natalia Naranjo Ramos, Co-Founder of COMUNITUR. They welcomed the national and international experts, and more than 150 attendees from Bogota and other municipalities of the central “Sabana” region, Cundinamarca, Boyacá, Santander, the Coffee Region and the Atlantic Coast in Colombia. The Forum was supported by partners such as the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), the Canadian Executive Services Organization (CESO-SACO), the Sustainable Tourism Americas Network (STAN) and Aves Internacionales. Sponsors included local entities such as Islamorada Restaurant/Bar, Casa de Eventos Hotel, and Pacari Chocolates Ecuadorian sponsor.
